Prior to joining Browne Consulting, I spent 2 years as an assurance associate at PwC in the insurance sector. From there I moved into the SAAS industry where I was for the past 5 years. I spent 3 years as a Senior Associate at AthenaHealth on the general ledger accounting and revenue accounting teams. I most recently spent 2 years at Rave Mobile Safety as the Accounting Manager and supported the team through their acquisition by Motorola Solutions.
  • Q: What did you choose to work in the life science industry?
  • A: I decided to make the change to the life science industry to become a part of a mission much larger than my function. As accountants it’s easy to lose sight of what the company’s larger goal is and easy to lose purpose in the work. Working for a company that has a goal to help people and drive positive change in the world is a motivating factor like no other.
  • Q: What attribute would you rank as number one for professional success?
  • A: The attribute I’d rank as number one for professional success is discipline. I once read that discipline is the bridge between goals and achievement and that’s something that’s resonated with me ever since. Being the smartest, loudest, or most educated in the room can only get you so far. Those who are self-disciplined have implemented the rules and routines to withstand challenges and disruptions to stay focused, motivated, and consistent.
  • Q: Do you like to travel? What was your favorite trip? Or what is your favorite upcoming trip?
  • A: Travel is my favorite hobby! This past year my fiancé and I rented out our condo to spend 8 months living a nomadic lifestyle with our dog. We packed our car and drove out to San Diego and spent 8 months living in AirBnBs, hotels, and short term rentals. We then spent 11 days exploring national parks and other landmarks such as Grand Teton, Yellowstone, and Mount Rushmore on our road trip home to Boston. We have a goal to visit all 50 states, and after this trip, we have less than 10 to go!

Mark Mele, CPA, MSA

Controller

Mark Mele brings over eight years of accounting and finance experience to Browne Consulting Group. Mark joined our team as a Controller, and now leads a team of one overseeing several newer clients who eagerly await their next significant R&D milestones. His areas of expertise are operational accounting, audit/tax preparation and support, accounting system implementation, management/investor financial reporting, budgets, and forecasts.

Prior to Browne Consulting Group, Mark worked at RSM in the Assurance practice serving clients in the renewable energy, manufacturing, and construction industries. After RSM, Mark worked at Cambridge Health Alliance as an Accounting Manager.

Q: What is your favorite quote or mantra, and why?

A: “Be a goldfish” – Ted Lasso

According to Ted Lasso, the happiest animal on Earth is a goldfish because it has a ten second memory. While one should learn from their mistakes, there is no need to dwell on them. Learn and move on.

Q: What are you passionate about outside of work?

A: I play in numerous recreational sports leagues.
