Lawrence Beck
Lawrence brings over 20+ years of accounting and financial management experience to Browne and has provided strategic and operational support to life science companies through various growth stages from initial funding through IPO completion. As Senior Advisor, Strategy & Operations, Lawrence will be a member of the senior team focused on developing strategy, optimizing internal operations, leading and assisting in certain key initiatives, and coaching and mentoring staff. Lawrence brings a unique perspective to Browne because he was previously a client of the firm when he served as VP, Finance at Clade Therapeutics and Adagio Therapeutics. Prior to those two roles, Lawrence supported several companies over many years in a consulting capacity, leading Finance and special projects. Earlier in his career, he spent several years at Ironwood Pharmaceuticals and Cubist Pharmaceuticals.
  • Q: What attribute would you rank as number one for professional success?
  • A: I’d rank “trustworthiness” as number one because it’s the foundation of positive and productive relationships in the workplace. Trustworthy people are respected and valued by their colleagues and clients. They deliver high-quality work, collaborate effectively, and solve problems creatively. Trustworthy people also have a positive influence on the organizational culture, as they inspire others to act with integrity, honesty and reliability. Trustworthiness is not only a personal virtue, but also a competitive advantage in the professional world.
  • Q: Do you like to travel? What was your favorite trip? Or what is your favorite upcoming trip?
  • A: I love to travel! I had the opportunity to go to Peru and Colombia with my two best friends for my 50th birthday. Machu Picchu was awe inspiring, but my favorite destination was Huacachina, Peru. While there, we got to sandboard down thirty-foot sand dunes in the desert – so much fun!
  • Q: What's your favorite quote or mantra? And why?
  • A: “JUST KEEP SWIMMING…” Although it came from a children’s movie, I find the advice simple and direct – if you persevere, you’ll achieve your goals. In life, we all face obstacles and setbacks. Perseverance allows you to see difficulties and challenges as growth opportunities, rather than as reasons to quit. When you persevere, you show others that you are reliable, trustworthy, and committed.

Mark Mele, CPA, MSA

Controller

Mark Mele brings over eight years of accounting and finance experience to Browne Consulting Group. Mark joined our team as a Controller, and now leads a team of one overseeing several newer clients who eagerly await their next significant R&D milestones. His areas of expertise are operational accounting, audit/tax preparation and support, accounting system implementation, management/investor financial reporting, budgets, and forecasts.

Prior to Browne Consulting Group, Mark worked at RSM in the Assurance practice serving clients in the renewable energy, manufacturing, and construction industries. After RSM, Mark worked at Cambridge Health Alliance as an Accounting Manager.

Q: What is your favorite quote or mantra, and why?

A: “Be a goldfish” – Ted Lasso

According to Ted Lasso, the happiest animal on Earth is a goldfish because it has a ten second memory. While one should learn from their mistakes, there is no need to dwell on them. Learn and move on.

Q: What are you passionate about outside of work?

A: I play in numerous recreational sports leagues.
